Shorewood Girls Softball League
2020 League and Team Sponsors
Thank you to our league and team sponsors this year! Their generous support allows us to purchase new equipment, provide team building opportunities and all the little things that make this league work.
Located in Shorewood, WI. We welcome players from the Milwaukee Metro area. The Shorewood Girls Softball League plays fast pitch softball.
SGSL has two age divisions: The Junior League consists of girls currently in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade. This level focuses on learning the game, developing skills and having fun. Joint Player and Umpire pitch is utilized to focus on the fundamentals of the game.
The Senior League is for girls currently in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. Players continue to develop their skills, including pitching and stealing bases.
Teams are rostered by the Board with input from last year's coaches. We consider multiple factors: preferred practice night, grade level, friend request, skill level and planned absences. Sr. League includes rostering teams with an even number of known pitchers. We aim to create balanced teams, at least on paper. No roster changes will be made after posting.
Uniforms and equipment
The SGSL, Inc. supplies the socks, visor, and shirt. Black softball pants are required. No shorts are allowed due to sliding. Shoes can be cleats (not metal) or tennis shoes. The League also supplies quality bats, batting helmets with face guards and catcher's equipment.
Players need to bring their own softball glove. The Junior League uses an 11" ball while the Senior League uses a 12" ball.
Practices and Games
Indoor practices begin in late April or early May.
Outdoor practices begin at the end of May at the Lake Bluff fields.
Practice times will be determined by the coach and posted on each team's page.
Games begin mid-June and continue through the end of July.
We offer Fall Ball scrimmages in September and October on Sunday afternoons.
Games rotate between the Lake Bluff fields, Shorewood High School, Bay View and Cudahy High School.
Games are on Wednesday and Friday evenings after 5pm.
No injured player will be allowed to return to play without a medical release signed by their doctor. Injured players may attend practices and games but stay only in the dug out.
All medical policies and forms can be found under the Registration tab, under forms.
Parent volunteers are vital to our league. There are many opportunities to get involved, no experience necessary. Please see the complete listing under our Club Information.
Inclement Weather Policy
SGSL makes every attempt to safely play softball games with changing weather conditions. SGSL will not play softball in severe weather that includes lightning and thunder. However, we can at times play in light rain. The decision to play includes monitoring weather conditions, considering safety and field conditions which can change quickly prior to game time.
SGSL will email parents and coaches by 4:00 PM if games are cancelled. Otherwise, decisions will be made as needed by Umpires and the Shorewood Recreation Department. Yes, we sometimes play in the rain and the players have fun! Parents always have the ultimate responsibility to make their own decisions regarding their child. The league will notify parents and coaches of make-up games as needed.
