League Overview
The Season
The softball season starts with weekly practices in May and weekly games starting the first week in June, running through the end of July.
Games are typically scheduled on Wednesday & Friday evenings after 5pm and are held at the Lake Bluff softball fields or the Shorewood High School softball field.
Practices starting in May are held indoors at either the Shorewood Intermediate School Gym or the Shorewood High School Arena or North Gym transitioning to outdoor practices as weather permits.
Outdoor practices are held at the Lake Bluff softball fields and are typically scheduled on Monday or Tuesday evenings per the coaches discretion.
Rostering
Teams are rostered by the Board with input from the previous year’s coaches.
We consider multiple factors: preferred practice night, grade level, friend request, skill level and planned absences.
Senior League includes rostering teams with an even number of known pitchers.
We aim to create balanced teams, at least on paper.
No roster changes will be made after posting.
Uniforms & Equipment
SGSL supplies the team socks, visors and t-shirt. The league also supplies quality bats, batting helmets with face guards and catcher’s equipment.
Players need to bring their own softball glove and are responsible for supplying their own solid black softball pants to complete their uniform.
No shorts are allowed due to sliding.
Shoes can be cleats (not metal) or tennis shoes.
The Junior League uses an 11” ball while the Senior League uses a 12” ball.
